It was a perfect day at The Peak on this third day of competition. The competing teams enjoyed waves ranging from 1.2m to 1.5m all day long, under bright sunshine and a clear blue sky, offering the athletes endless left-handers at the famous The Peak spot, situated right in the centre of Bundoran.
The favourites were thus able to put their technical skills to the test on the long wave faces, which remained consistent in quality despite the changing tide, whilst the steady offshore wind further enhanced the quality of this third day of competition.

Kamiel Deraeve - Belgium
In the boys’ U16 category, Belgium’s Kamiel Deraeve stood out with the highest total (15.25 points) of the day in this category. Behind him were Francesco Anglani (ITA), who confirmed his good form, and Francesco Santos (PRT), as well as Ruben Husson (FRA), who maintained a consistent performance following their two heats in rounds 2 and 3 and progressed directly to the semi-finals of the main draw.
In the U16 girls’ event, France’s Charlie Legay continues to cause a sensation. She had already impressed everyone yesterday in difficult conditions, but today, on perfect waves, she put on a real show!
She scored 13.75 points in the morning during Round 2, then in the afternoon, with disconcerting ease, she put on another show, this time with a total of 17.17 points, including a 9.5-point wave.
Alongside her, we mustn’t forget Mel Cantho (PRT) or the local competitor Isabel O’Reilly, supported by her team and the large crowds lining the promenade and at the competition venue.

Charly Legay - France
In the U18 boys’ category, Alejo Valido (SPN), a true metronome, is racking up heats and top-level scores one after another. Once again, the Lanzarote-based backsider scored waves of over 8 points – including one of 9 points – with disconcerting ease. Having already finished twice in the top three of the competition’s best performers, it seems clear that a place in this weekend’s final is already a distinct possibility for him.
But watch out – there’s stiff competition in this category. Starting with the Italian, Scoppa, and the local rider Joshua Karbus (IRL), who are both very consistent.
In the girls’ U18 category, as expected, the battle for the four places in the final is set to be fierce.
Whilst the Spaniard, Julieta Rodriguez Vilamil (SPN), is in superb form, Rose Calvez (FRA) and Emma Van der Huls (NDL) are not to be outdone. Rose once again scored the best wave of the day in this category (7.17 points).
It’s worth noting that Chiarra Cupone (ITA) and Josie Hawke (WAL) are also capable of causing a stir.

ESF Judges - Bundoran
At the moment, across all categories, consistency is lacking, with some athletes managing to achieve a good score but struggling to repeat the feat a second time. It is worth noting that surfing competitions always take the two best waves from each surfer to determine the result during the 20-minute heat.
On the fourth day of competition, the main draw will take a break, whilst the organisers will devote the day to the repechage heats across the four categories.
The longboarders are once again taking a break, before most likely returning to action on Wednesday at The Peak.
